Our Extreme Seminar Marketing Experiment

Thom Scott - Friday, February 20, 2009
Today, we’re launching an experiment. We’re testing whether or not a seminar can be filled with participants without the usual hype and tactics that we’re all used to seeing all the time … some that I myself have defaulted to using as well.

Here are the premises that I’m building this test upon:
  1. We put together INCREDIBLE and LIFE-CHANGING events … consistently having both participants AND our experts call us within a couple months afterwards to ask us when the next one is. It really is THAT good.

  2. Despite the fact that it’s been proven time and time again that people who attend events make greater progress, more quickly and changes made are more permanent, less and less people are taking the time to attend events – often preferring to learn online. (While I am a BIG believer in learning through books, audios and online methods, it’s simply not  a substitute for the experience of going to an event – networking with others and making some clear decisions and action plans for improvement.)

  3. HYPE DOES WORK. If I imply that you’ll make a ton of money and lose weight virtually overnight, I can fill our seminar up in no time flat. But, I have to be able to look myself in the mirror. I have to know that if the things I do were printed in the paper, my kids would never be embarrassed that I’m their dad. And, I’ve always believed that there is a God an I’m NOT Him … so I answer to a higher authority. I also want to make sure that we continue to attract like-minded participants – who are eager to make changes in how they are doing things to take their businesses to the next level and improve their quality of life. Those who recognize that, while it’s not difficult, it is still work and they are going to have to put in some effort to reap the rewards.

  4. But, I also believe that times are changing – quickly! People are getting tired of empty promises and manipulative methods. They are starting to recognize and reward authenticity. So, if we just continue to do what we’re doing – delivering far more in value than we receive in payment, our Extreme Business Makeovers seminar will continue to grow.

So here’s how this little experiment is going to work. Rather than have a 15 page long sales letter with a page that forces you put in your contact information before you find out any details, we’re launching with this simple web site and blog. The web site has a good overview of what Extreme Business Makeovers is all about, but without all the “salesy” kinda stuff we’re all used to seeing. And, on this blog, I’ll be posting updates about the event and the preview tele-seminars we’ll be having with our Faculty members. I’ll also post some articles from our Faculty so you get a really good idea of the type of value that they will be adding to your life at Extreme Business Makeovers.

I’ll give you an enticement (an online video of Simon T. Bailey – who was one of our Faculty at last year’s event) in order to get you to sign up for updates and information, but that’s totally up to you. If you prefer to just keep coming back and checking out what’s new when you feel like it. That’s cool with me. Fair enough?

So, here we go. Buckle up! I’m sure it will be a fun ride and I’ll let you know along the way how it’s going.
